In the unfinished book I list meditation as the twelfth fundamental step towards experiencing a continuous state of happiness. English dictionary describes meditation as: “engaging in thought or devout religious contemplation, or quiescent spiritual introspection.” Attending meditation classes one is told meditation is all about silencing the mind, getting rid of thought and so on.

In the book I list ten facts about meditation, which should hopefully help toward a better understanding, experience and application. Here are the first three:

  1. The objective of meditation is to quieten the mind. Not by putting thoughts to sleep, but through rising awareness beyond thought.
  2. Meditation cannot be learned. We can learn about meditation, but learning about meditation is not the same as meditating. Meditation must be experienced.
  3. There is no unique way to meditate correctly. We are all unique, thus our path and the way we meditate is unique. However, the goal is equal to all; being alert in the presence of Now; being who we truly are.
