88. WHY DO WE SEEK DIFFERENT RELATIONSHIPS?
When I was 16 years old, my high-school chemistry professor presented me this exact question. Why do we seek different relationships?
MY ANSWER: Because every relationship gives us something special, different, or unique.
“Don’t be daft”! Exclaimed my chemistry professor. “We form the different relationships because every relationship gives us something familiar, something we know and we can relate to,” he concluded.
I was dumbstruck. His answer made no sense to me. Why form DIFFERENT relationships just to get more of the SAME?
In time I learned that we reach our conclusions based on the type of a person that we are, how we perceive reality, the world and our place within it. In the case of relationships, some of us look for something new, different and unfamiliar, while others look for more of the same, something they know and which makes them feel comfortable.
