70. UNDERSTANDING THE NATURE OF TRUTH
Science, philosophy, religion and spirituality each present us with their individual interpretation of the truth. They each offer us a map of the labyrinth, which is constructed in accordance with, and on the basis of, their respective ideals, specific views and frames of reference.
However, we now understand that our perception of the world is relative to how we “measure” reality and our place within it. From this it must hold true, that ultimately, we cannot claim anything with absolute definitiveness. In other words, there is no scientific theory, no philosophical reasoning, no religious belief, and no spiritual experience, which is absolutely true.
This means our knowledge of science, like philosophy, religion and spirituality before it, is fundamentally subjective and dependent upon everything else. Our knowledge in physics confirms this fact.
What practical benefit and application may we learn from this knowledge?
- The collective truth of any society is dictated by the prevailing and/or most powerful entities, such as governments, institutions, powerful individuals, and occasionally by the will of the people, and defined through values, education, standards and law. Values, education and standards are negotiable, but law has effectively replaced truth. NOTE: US corporations annually spend over 5.5 billion USD on lobbying the government for favorable legislation.
- The personal truth we experience is a reflection of our inner potential, of who we truly are. The greater our understanding of this potential, the greater our influence upon the world.
To summarize: Practical value of truth is manifested in real life as knowledge-ability: the ability to evaluate and apply knowledge responsibly and for a just, meaningful or greater cause.
