61. PROPOSAL: A RETURN TO DEMOCRACY

Every 4 years we get a chance to vote for our leaders. We call it democracy.

A QUICK SUMMARY OF GENERAL ELECTIONS: Political parties present their plans, corporations and wealthy individuals inject their cash, and the sheep turn up in numbers and vote for their favorite party/politicians. Then everybody goes home and the politicians, the corporations and the wealthy return to doing what they have always done: keep the masses at bay while they exploit the planet, exploit the people and lobby for policies which favor their agendas.

THE DYSFUNCTION: Our economic system is driven by competition for the profit of few. It propels division, hostility and, inequality. It’s designed to kill democracy and place the resources and power into the hands of select few, namely: the men (and women) who hide behind biggest corporations: behind the wealth of the planet.

THE DILEMMA: Does anybody still believe politicians are here to honorably manage our countries? Probably not. So why do we keep pursuing the standard madness of general elections? Is there an alternative?

THE ALTERNATIVE

STEP 1: We are in the business of running a country. To do this successfully we need, A) a PLAN, and B) the RIGHT TEAM (employees) to execute this plan. How would this work in a democracy? THE CITIZENS elect the most capable individuals who will put together a worthy plan and execute it. This means we need a system that will attract or enable the most suitable and dedicated experts to come together and fulfill the needs and wishes of its citizens (the people).

STEP 2: We must closely monitor our employees (the experts). I propose dividing the so-called government into 3 distinct groups and support it by people’s guidance (today’s technology enables this).

Group 1: Top experts in every field: They put together the plan and are responsible for execution and proposals for improvements.

Group 2: Politicians: They are responsible for communication and work closely with the experts from Group 1.

Group 3: A council of reputable, elderly women and men, who have earned their trust through their lifetime of service and achievements. They monitor the work of the experts and politicians and advise on all matters. Into this group, I would also invite the most influential/wealthy individuals.

GUIDANCE: The people daily participate/vote on all important issues employing secure modern technology (technology exists and is ready to be implemented). The vote of the people serves only as a guide. Put simply, in every moment, the government knows the will or the mood of the people on any particular issue.

  • The individuals for the 3 groups are elected by the people every 4-5 years.
  • Each of the 3 groups carries a pre-designated power or vote.
  • Any policies are implemented ONLY when 2 out of the 3 groups agree.

IN SUMMARY

Any successful system is, of course, a PATH, not a final Goal. In this post, I present a simplified explanation of a highly-complex democratic process, which needs to be broken down, constructed from bottom up and fine-tuned through ceaseless debate and practice. There are NO perfect solutions. Every system is only the best until replaced by a better one.

It’s important we begin with a clear objective in our minds: To build a better system for a better future: for all people, for all beings, for the world.

The point of this post is that WE NEED TO CHANGE THE WAY WE ARE GOVERNED. The present political system has become entangled in its own bureaucracy and is no longer capable of delivering the solutions we desperately require. This post is a proposal, not a solution, which potentially offers a “direction” toward a better system, which may provide the basis for a sustainable and responsible co-creation of our prosperity.
