81. A WORTHY RELATIONSHIP IS AN AGREEMENT THAT CHALLENGES AND SUPPORTS EACH PARTICIPANT.
Many people see me as someone who is afraid of relationships. Me, on the other hand, feel that such people just have a very narrow view of the subject. Here’s how I see it.
FIRST, everything is a relationship. Think of anything and you are immediately establishing a relationship. Relationships are all-important.
SECOND, I enter into relationships primarily to encourage growth or to get things done, not so much to seek comfort and/or security. Many people simply don’t want to be challenged, I accept and respect their decision.
THIRD, the statement “everybody needs somebody” is insufficient and thus wrong. The right statement is “everybody needs somebody who adds value to his or her life.”
FOURTH: We all share the right to self-determination, as long as our path is not damaging others. BUT… a snail and a jet travel at different speeds, different altitudes, and possess different sets of skills.
IN CONCLUSION: It’s our privilege and responsibility to find RIGHT relationships. The rest is just JUDGMENT and all judgment is essentially about the Self.
