(Blog on… 026) SPIRITUALITY IS FUN!
I live by a simple truth, which states: “It has never been proven life is a serious matter.”
This truth is not about to change, so I make the most of it. Of course, we must be responsible, pursue growth and lend a helping hand. But too many people simply take this life too seriously!
There is the serious mum, the serious dad, the serious boss, the serious employee, the serious laundry cleaner, the serious taxi driver, the serious pizza delivery guy, the almost funny TV show etc. etc. etc… And then there is this thing called spirituality. OMG! Honestly…?! Spiritual growth is simply a self-examining comedy show, where we, intelligent human beings, journey through life looking to find ourselves. If that wasn’t bad enough – we all suffer from a disease called mortality. Eventually we all die and the only one left laughing is God. So I ask you seriously – what’s all the fuss about?!
Please don’t take my word for it. Indian guru Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj had the following words to share with his disciple who was searching for enlightenment: “You take it too seriously. What is wrong with play? You have a purpose only as long as you are not complete; till then completeness, perfection, is the purpose. But when you are complete in yourself, fully integrated within and without, then you enjoy the universe; you do not labour at it.” Eckhart Tolle quoted: “Life isn’t as serious as the mind makes it out to be”, the great Aristotle was noted for saying: “The gods too are fond of a joke” and last, but not least, John McNroe was relentless is his pursuit of truth by repeatedly shouting: “You cannot be serious!”
So lets relax, drop the serious look and enjoy the holidays. After all – it’s far easier to keep the smiles than commandments 🙂
