(Blog on… 023) NEVER MIND THE BRAIN
The mind is the result of jelly-like mass of tissue, weighing in at around 1.4 kilograms and containing a staggering one hundred billion nerve cells, or neurons. The brain, as we popularly call this device, is the first fully functional quantum computer on our planet and certainly the most complex organ in our human body. It’s the only organ, which named itself.
The complexity of connectivity between cells is just phenomenal. Each neuron can make contact with thousands or even tens of thousands of others via tiny structures called synapses. As a result our brain forms million new connections every second. It weighs in at 2% of our body weight, yet uses 20-30% kcals and 20% of body’s oxygen and blood flow. Pattern and strength of neuron connections is constantly changing and no two brains are alike, making every person a truly unique being on a unique planet, solar system and the Universe.
Changed your mind about the brain? 🙂
